My wife is status Indian. At one time, her people were not permitted to leave the reserve without carrying that certificate
and getting written permission from the Department of Indian Affairs. That permission was routinely denied.
So no, this is not ‘woe is me fears’. This is what happens when you give bureaucrats power to revoke your basic human rights.
In effect, you are saying that because Aboriginal Canadians used to be grossly oppressed by making them carry written permission to leave home, it is therefore a good thing for
all Canadians to be grossly oppressed by the same means.
I say there are worse things than the risk of being infected by COVID, and being placed under permanent house arrest is one of them.
