From my perspective the deal still stinks. Way too much money. I was a longtime Wings fan until Ken Holland ran them into the ground. The man has no idea how to build a team. That was very apparent in Detroit once the team he inherited needed work.
I get wanting to be excited for your team. I would just try and temper expectations under Holland. And yeah, these guys do have a pretty big blind spot regarding the Oilers and Canucks. Rivalries will do that to fans. But if I want solid analysis on a trade between Florida and Arizona or a free agent signing in Columbus, I can count on it here.

Holland as a GM has never really built anything. Detroit’s success has always been from Jimmy Devallano on out. He brought in Brian Murray, Scotty Bowman etc. and learned under Bill Torrey. Holland was a part of Devallano’s machine and obvious not the brightest bulb in the circuit as Jim Nill has accomplished exponentially better work in Dallas.
Much like Chiarelli, Holland was the worst choice as a GM. Another Oiler shortcut seduced by past glory. Bill Guerin would have been a better pick, but he probably didn’t tell the 80’s Glory Boys what they wanted to hear.
Holland has turned them into a bubble team and locked them into a corner to do it. Yippy!!
As far as Oiler and Canuck blind spots here. Read and believe what you want, but everyone here capable of critical thought realizes they have two elite offensive talents while also understanding their defensive limitations.
Are they the worst? No? Are they close to a contending team No.
They’re locked into the mushy middle for the foreseeable future while they squander elite talent, which is the best case scenario for rival fans.
