That's a good approach. I've asked people a couple of times and it's usually fine. My dad was not so lucky. The person in front of him was leaning forward. So he politely asked the guy to lean back as he couldn't see the play. The guy told him to "Mind your own f'ing business, I paid for my seat I can do what I want." My dad then commented that he wasn't the only one in the rink and on his general attitude. The other guy continued to be incredibly rude, usher overheard and sided with my dad. He had to lean back and was muttering under his breath the rest of the game. Really unfortunate that it went that way.
