It wouldn't be a bad strategy if the Oilers were actually built properly around McDavid. But alas, that team is such a tire fire mess, it's hilarious to watch them piss away cap space to overpay for mediocre talent.
Nurse is a 2nd pairing dman that overachieved last year because of the weak North division competition. I bet he becomes the new Oilers whipping boy in a couple of years.

I'm guessing the plan is to let Draisaitl walk as McDavid has the extra year, and then liquidate McDavid in the summer before his final season in Edmonton.
