I think the areas where Treliving could most improve the team through free agency are 4th line centre and 3rd pairing right defence. Those are minor roles, but I would feel more comfortable if the Flames at least had Anisimov and Vatanen or Demers available. Gawdin or Ruzicka could prove incapable of outscoring their opponents over 82 games, and the Flames’ young left-handed defencemen could prove incapable of hacking it on their off side at the NHL level.
