We're spoiled with places a stones throw away that many people will fly 14 hours just to get a glimpse of.
Just look at a youtube video as "mundane" as the drive from yyc to canmore and commenters are just blown away. They want to spend a chunk of their savings just to come see these surroundings.
This is also why I don't buy Calgary from a location perspective as not desirable. Thats horsecrap. Was listening to 960 the other day and some American baseball insiders from the south said they took the opportunity to drive through the bc interior to banff and called it the most beautiful drive in the world.
I'd say we have a massive leg up on many places after you do your homework on the area.
Its good to the point where Edmonton puts out promotional videos pumping the fact that they're a 5 hour drive from it, because its the very best thing they have to grasp on to.

It's Canada as a whole that's not as desirable. Sure the mountains are nice but Denver has them. Sure Vancouver's nice but so is Seattle. Toronto pales to NYC. Even Toronto has issues securing non-Canadian players as it seems Americans, Europeans, and even some Canadian players prefer to play in the USA. Blake Coleman is a Flame because the Flames offered him the best contract. It is what it is.
