I mean....it could make sense.
They're blaming not signing Messi squarely on the Financial Regulations, they're saying that terms and salary and everything were agreed but they just cant fit him in with the regulations.
I have to agree with both you and the Senator, I could see it being a play, but it'd be a ballsy play.
Especially since the rest of the clubs in La Liga would probably scream bloody murder if Barca got an exemption.
Its kind of a double-edged sword though....Messi brings a lot of revenue not only to Barca but to all of La Liga through TV rights and Sponsorship deals, but at the same time, a Messi-less Barca would give all the other La Liga teams a better chance to compete.
And to potentially lose Messi for free? That'd be a swift kick in the balls.
