The Sabres would be better off dealing with a team and getting a one for one top prospect back then getting Monahan and couple average extra pieces.

Sure but the Sabres aren't exactly dealing from a position of strength here.
They've got a disgruntled star who wants out, and not only that but he's damaged goods with a massive cap hit and contract that comes with him.
