So what’s Buffalo going to do? Wait Jack out? Force that franchise player into a decision medically where he wants something different just so he can play. Not only would he now be miserable and disengaged but his value will continue to diminish. Or maybe Eichel believes so passionately about the two surgeries and the cross roads that he also stands ground and sits out?? Again value here will continue to diminish. Teams realize Buffalo is in between a rock and a hard place right now and it’s only getting worse as time ticks away here.
Also it’s hilarious the take on Monahan at the moment from some here it gets tough to read… the guy isn’t just a throw in or our spare pickings, he’s been a top Center for some time and while he’s arguably been playing in a position that’s above his weight class there has been times when Mony has punch at that weight class. He’s actually a perfect piece to have coming back if the Sabres plan to go scorched earth because you still need leadership and players who’ve been in top positions before to bring along the youth, Monahan could provide that in spades no problem.
From what I can tell based on league noise there really is no chance for Eichel to be traded to an eastern rival barring a massive overpayment from said eastern rival. It also sounds like the western teams really aren’t willing to meet the demands being requested so at this point I think the door is wide open and I’m happy Treliving - if he is involved - is taking his time to get a good deal.
