Jack also has a No Move Clause starting next year. Then we will be trading him at a loss to one another team.
Jack could come here and maybe add a few more points in the standings, but he certainly has not shown that he can carry or be not be a dominant player like McDavid, MacKinnon, Crosby or Ovi and single handedly almost bring a team into playoff land.
The First Rounders taht we may be giving up to get Jack and if the current team plays like they did this past season, those 1st round picks may be top 3 picks. Reference San Jose Sharks and Ottawa Senators Erik Karlsson Trade. In that case you are giving a couple potential 'Eichels' and other prospects to get an injured Jack Eichel for maybe a few years.
Keep the current core and start to 'retool' the right way through development and good scouting.

Eichel may not be on a level with those players. However, McDavid has won exactly one PO series, 5 years ago, and his team has missed the POs more often than not. Mackinnon has been in the league 8 years and has made it to the second round only a couple times. Ovi’s team has had very uneven results in the POs and it took him 13 seasons to win a cup.
It’s a team game. The hope is that Eichel puts the team over the top, not that he carries them per se.
