This is also why it irks me when people write off Valimaki for being mistake prone this early in his career, particularly after not seeing ice for an extended period. The kid clearly cares about getting better. Give him the opportunity to do that.

There are different types of mistakes. Risks need to be taken but they need to be calculated. Certain types of mistakes will get you benched and should.
I would suggest we need to stop making excuses for him and ask why he hasn't been able to grab the opportunity in the same way that others have.
