The definition stems from a time where (almost) no women had money due to many socio-economic reasons. So in the past (almost) only a female COULD be a gold digger
I would like to think equality have come far enough that men can start encroaching on the women's monopoly of being called a gold digger and more and more men can start marrying for money!
Maybe we need a new term for this when referring to men?
