Your proposal seems like the obvious approach in a vaccum, but the reality is that this core is coming to contract loggerheads that is going to create a situation where we could lose some of it for nothing. That window is closer than the window of existing prospects we could hope to use to build from the draft will be good enough to be meaningful.

Ownership doesn't want to rebuild, clearly. So the alternative is to try and win now before the contract situation makes that even more untenable. Eichel is a way to achieve that, cupboards be damned. If the Eichel experiment fails, the team will most certainly be set back, but this will actually FORCE ownership to finally do the rebuild/ build through draft approach properly. Until then we are stuck in limbo.
Well I would suggest Treliving get on his horse and get something done for someone upfront one way or the other. Patience has a place as a GM, but he's constantly missing deals by not putting all of his chips on the table at one point or another.

You're right. If trading for Eichel fails in the long run, it's actually a good thing as there's nothing left to interpretation with this train wreck. If it works, just maybe this group has some mileage to finally do something.

The longer this inactivity goes on, the less likely anything gets done and this team will be right back picking 11-14 once again.
