Being paid $20k before paying for coaches/training and such, and of course taxes is pretty brutal. For some context, the TV deal that the UFC signed was $1.5bn, and pretty clearly not a lot of that is ending up in the pockets of the athletes.

How is such bad pay possible? I'm not denying it, but are coaches not working for anything? GSP recently said he made a killing, but I think they're forced to pay their big guys a ton of money, but the little guys get paid peanuts. Fighters should unionize if anything, but I doubt it'd get them far as there are probably loads of talented fighters who would cross the line. Tough to make progress there with such a large supply of fighters, who the UFC can just market as being good (which is what the company is frankly built on - marketing). Anyway, I can see a major network over the next few years pulling away talent through forming a competitive league by paying better. The UFC has been built on Dana and Rogan's face. All any network needs to do is bring in credible brand faces and they've got competition against the UFC. The UFC also has huge bills to pay considering the price paid, so it shouldn't be too difficult to undercut them.
