Lets think about the optics of this for a moment.

Evander Kane loves to Gamble. He has made that quite clear over the years.

It got him into trouble where he has had to declare Bankruptcy to welch on debts to Las Vegas casinos.

Okay...is it reasonable to assume that Bankruptcy wasnt the first strategy he tried?

Perhaps he tried to clear the debt betting on things he thought he either knew better or even influence? Hence betting on NHL games.

Further, Evander Kane is not an island. He presumably knows a lot of players, management etc, and might be privy to more information about Team Dynamics, how certain players are feeling or whatever that would give him an edge over other Gamblers?

Now...I've made a lot of assumptions there, but not with many glaring leaps of logic.

Because it seems to me that if all he wanted to do was Gamble he could play table games, he could bet on horse racing, hell if he wanted to bet on sports bet on other sports! Theres lots of perfectly good options!

So to do this seems to imply a different level of need.
