But if you trade for him, you are committing to it AND you are losing player assets.
I mean, if the Flames are ok with Eichel's surgery, I'd prefer this route. Flames only lose the money with the cap hit going on LTIR anyways and you don't lose the prospects and draft picks.
On the open market, you get a few bidders and he can probably get close to $50 million with how dumb GMs are.
