Considering that part of his job is to help athletes rehabilitate after surgeries, and another part is helping them rehabilitate
instead of surgery, I'd say it's his professional duty to know a good deal about what's likely to work and what isn't.
He is absolutely right about one thing: Prosthetics don't hold up under extreme usage. They weren't designed for it, and unlike real human tissue, they don't have the capacity to heal from wear and tear.
