Treliving has likely accepted that if you are going to sign him, it will likely be for 8 years and will likely include some kind of NMC/NTC. So once you have those things in place, it’s finding comparable numbers around the league.
I think the final number is $8 million. Gaudreau’s camp might be asking for $9 million while the flames are likely offering $7 million.
Obviously I’m over-simplifying it. It’s a complicated process that every team/player goes through. Just frustrating that if both the team and the player want to get this done, it should be easier to get it done.

I personally don't find it that strange. There is a lot that goes into deal making for multi-million dollar transactions and running various models / scenarios etc. I'm sure the agents are running a million scenarios and spreadsheets and going back and forth to player and then negotiating and then team takes that and goes back and runs their models and thinks about it and on and on and on.
This stuff takes a long time to do actually.
