You'd probably be looking at $7-$7.5M for an extension after that though.
In 2022-2023 you'd be looking at moving Lucic to Arizona in the offseason (or hoping he retires)
and that's how you afford the extensions to Parayko, Mangiapane, and Johnny.

The above is quoted randomly and could just as easily be any similar post with dazzling numbers.
At the same time that I was browsing through this and other threads about the decision making process on contract signings,
I was also looking at a game story I wrote late in the 1967-1968 expansion season after a Minnesota North Stars' game.
From March 7, 1968.....
"Minnesota is healthy but the roster remains one skater short. General Manager Wren Blair, said that he is keeping the spot open
with the hope of enticing amateur D-Lou Nanne, a former standout at the University of Minnesota, to sign a contract and immediately join the team.
Nanne just completed his commitment to the U.S. National team with his participation at the Olympic games in Grenoble, France.
However, there is doubt about his interest in signing because of his profitable sales position at Mackay Envelope Company in Minneapolis."
Something changed in the interim and I'm the oldest person on earth.
