I don't even know where to put Eichel thoughts now... here, trade specs thread?
I mainly just lurk and have worn out my F5 button over the past week or so but wanted to get my 2 cents in, see what you all think.
If I'm looking at Buffalo, by trading Eichel, they would be in need for a center to at least replace him, with losing Reinhart (I know he mostly played wing) recently too. Now, I know they have Cozens and Mittelstadt but other than that, it looks fairly thin and these guys are relatively unproven too. Then, in terms of value, factor in the fact that Eichel probably had his worst year and is a bit of an unknown in terms of his injury.
My proposal to Buffalo would be Monahan (needed center, good AAV and only 2 more years), Dube (young NHLer), Pelletier (fairly highly rated prospect?), 2021st (top 3 protected). Throw in another 2nd if they retain 10% salary. Now it's not anywhere near some of what I've seen suggested but this isn't 100% Eichel, and Buffalo + the rest of the league knows it. Also, I'm not sure Buffalo would really want Tkachuk given his contract status and his lack of center prowess.
Then, I'd look to trade Tkachuk, mainly due to the fact that I don't think the Flames could have a top line where they all make around 9m (hopefully Gaudreau comes in around 8) and I'm not sure Tkachuk is going to be worth that much either.
I propose trading Tkachuk to St. Louis for Tarasenko, Kyrou + a 1st or a 2nd. It's essentially Tkachuk and his pending contract issues for Tarasenko's contract and then his actual value equaling Kyrou and the highest pick you can get. I think Tarasenko can bounce back, but if not, he's only got a couple of years left. Kyrou slots in nicely where Dube vacates and we recoup a high pick.
Then basically go into the season with this:
Gaudreau - Eichel - Tarasenko
Manigapane - Lindholm - Kyrou
Coleman - Backlund - Pitlick/Ritchie/Lewis
Lucic - Zary(!) - Pitlick/Richie/Lewis
Hanifin - Tanev
Valimaki - Andersson
Mackey - Zadorov
Markstrom
Darth
I know Zary being there is a bit of an unknown but I thought he looked really good during the AHL stint last year. Ideally he'd probably play a bit more but I just have a feeling he's got a shot at sticking out of camp. If not, we have enough C depth for a 4th line IMO.
Obviously, it sounds like Buffalo is wanting more for Eichel but I'm not sure I'd offer more than this... And overall, at least to me, this line-up seems much more balanced and exciting(!) compared to what we've got rolling into next year at the moment with more manageable contracts to boot.
Anyhoo, my posts are always a wall of text cause they're usually a culmination of much rumination. I should go see if I can pull this off in NHL21...
