Get the player. Assets or money, who cares - this is a player who, when healthy, is the presumptive #2C for the American Olympic team behind Auston Matthews.
Who cares if it’s expensive, who cares if he needs to miss 3-6 months with neck surgery. If you honestly consider yourselves contenders, you need him more than you need everything in that package. Treliving knows this.
An Enzo that’s been in a wreck is still an Enzo.

It comes down to price. More than half the teams (I estimate) aren't interested because of cap restrictions, risk of surgery, or proximity to Buffalo, so realistically maybe 5 teams are possible. Who could the Flames realistically let go of, while also fulfilling Buffalo's needs, but also outbidding the other 4 teams without screwing their own future?
I'm thinking the deal would have to centre around Monahan. Because he's not the same calibre of Tkachuk, throw a roster player, Lindholm into the mix. Then add a 1st (protected).
To me, that's the max risk they can take on without completely f'ing their future, but also adding a star. I'm not sure that's enough when it comes to the competition upping their end to beat that, but I think that's as realistic as possible to creating something for their consideration.
