I don't know how a team can gut their roster for a player that may not even play for them, for a year.

The Brooklyn Nets did this with Kevin Durant because the following year they got to have Kevin Durant play basketball for them for another three years. And less than 24 months later, they have a super team.

This roster can be good enough to hang around 6-10th without Eichel. Maybe he makes it back in time for the playoffs.

And if you know he’s here another 4 years anyway, there’s no justification for not getting him.

It’s not like it’s more desirable to lose hockey games for three or four years hoping to get a player like this through the draft.
