Well whatever it was he had going on with the backup goalie turned into a scuffle in the hallway after a loss, so probably a major concern about being toxic. And a history of abuse of an official penalties/suspensions as well. And while no one might be too concerned about the guys in stripes, I would hate to have someone out there turning my team into a target with the refs. Lots of judgement calls get made out there, so when you loathe one teams existence, it's hard to not even subconsciously have a bias.
Honestly I felt the refs were upset about Wideman when it happened, but put it on the player. Once the Flames went after the suspension of Wideman, it started to appear like nothing really broke the flames way with calls afterwards for a while.
