He's not a big defender, good skater though. But $6 million for 4 more years with a career high of 36 points and 15 points in 54 games last season. How did he get that contract from Vegas?
I mean TJ Brodie is a much better player and all he could get was $5 million as a UFA.
Ryan Murray had 14 points in 48 games last season, is younger, bigger than Schmidt, has a career high of 29 points and is a UFA. Equally good skater.
Why would any team trade for Schmidt when you can just sign Murray for maybe half that price?
