Let's cut the BS out - if you want to take what we have in terms of talent and cap space, as well as prospects (both in terms of something being ready to step in or being something that is valuable in a trade), we are short of talent and short of assets. Yeah, thanks to Sutter and the weakness of the Pacific, we can/should make the playoffs, but we have no chance to win. This franchise needs a miracle - like some unforseen leaps forward from youngsters and a bunch of guys having career years. Yet, the mandate is to compete/win now. So... how? I think the most realistic option is to hold our noses, and go shopping in the "deplorables" aisle - go get De Angelo because he is free and cheap, and fills a huge need for you. You may not want to and it may blow up, but I think that's the sort of thing you have to do when you can't realistically get better otherwise... They should have traded for Buchnevich because he was relatively cheap, and could be flipped at the deadline if things didn't go well. They should have traded for Bean because, again, that's a cheap shot at some upside. Stuff like that - low cost options with quite large upside (but some major/potential negatives). That's why I liked Leivo signing last season (I thought he had some potential to explode), but hated the other ones (no upside, just filler). Have to take some bold, if distasteful, shots...
