Historically, if you look at the two NCAA kids who were traded, there's a commonality:
Brandon Hickey (2014) was a lefty defender when the team had Mark Giordano, Brett Kulak and then drafted Oliver Kylington. If you thought you could be in the NHL right away, there wasn't much of a path to a roster spot at the time.
Adam Fox (2016) was a righty defender who, seemingly, decided he wanted to play for the Rangers (Tim Erixon style). The Flames also had Rasmus Andersson and Dougie Hamilton on the team at that point, so it wasn't as if the Flames had a top four roster spot to dangle in front of him to combat his desires.
Coronato? He seems destined for top nine duties and as a right shot forward who can score goals like crazy, he's basically a unicorn in the system right now.
