Yeah there are generally two ways to do UFA rights trades.
1. Soft agreement. GM gives permission for other teams to talk to pending UFA with the condition that if team gets to a point where they feel really confident they can sign the UFA they agree to give compensation and the trade is made.
2. Hard agreement. GM straight up says no negotiations before trade. Teams have to gamble if they can sign him before free agency happens (not accounting for tampering
