I hope CGY's young defencemen were given a good summer plan and they are executing. Sutter has already demanded more from them and Sutter hiring means win now.
It's all spilt milk now but when they finally decided to put the best roster on the ice:
13 - 28 - 19 first line
5 - 8 first pair
CGY played well (in games that still mattered - I think 10 games with roster change but only last 4 games were meaningless. So those 6 games showed that alignment made them competitive). Might be slightly off on number of games.
Even against top tier opponents that alignment held it's own and was able to play offense (play in the offensive zone) against top lines.
I think when they didn't do this - and had Gio away from Tanev, people thought Gio had lost a step and should've retired. Those people were as wrong as they've always been and always will be.
By end of season Gio was, by far, the best defenceman on the team and probably one of the best all round defencemen in the league.
BUT players move on all the time - so I hope the young guys are training hard and improving.
Gio is one in a million. For CGY he was a great player, a great leader (who dropped the gloves like Iggy) on the ice and an even better human being.
