Bayreuther and True are tweeners with some sneaky good relative metrics in limited NHL ice time. They've tended to outperform their teammates but have never been rewarded by moving up the roster. Francis is probably betting that they would show more if given a real opportunity.
Twarynski, according to Hockey-Reference.com, is a good Calgary kid with a weird little blob of fuzz on his chin. Other than that, I got nothin'.
Some of the expansion picks were real head-scratchers, I'll agree. Unlike some of our rasher posters, I shall reserve judgement whether they were actually stupid. I have a feeling Francis is up to something Moneyball-ish, but the numbers available to the public, even the ‘advanced’ ones, aren't enough to tell me what that is.
