I still think Gio to Toronto last trade deadline was the right move for both teams, Flames could have retained. Would have made a lot more sense for Toronto to use their first on Gio instead of Foligno.

Would have allowed them to pair Brodie + Gio, and Reilly + Muzzin to really shore up their top 4.

Gio (25-50% retained) + Rittich for 1st + Dermott

That should have been the deal at the trade deadline. Toronto could have protected Gio instead of Holl and probably still end up losing McCann anyways.
