You definitely could be right but other teams knew the Flames were bent over a barrel so not sure which teams were willing to spend. I suppose a 3rd is better than nothing.
I imagine Gio would of had the Wings, Oilers on their list. Philly sent out a Dman who was a lock to be protected to get Ellis.
Maybe the Flames could have done something but I am not convinced.
