When it comes down to it, the Flames from 2007-2013 just weren't very good. We had maybe a couple seasons between 07 and 09 with Langkow and Huselius/Cammalleri/Tanguay (particularly 08/09 when a bunch of players were injured just before the playoffs), but overall the team was constructed poorly, gave up tons of assets for bottom six forwards or bottom pairing defencemen, and never had any help coming through the prospect pipeline.
Darryl = bad GM
The results from after the lockout to when Iggy was traded are primarily on him.

That team in 08/09 was a powerhouse. Some of the worst injury luck this team has ever seen derailed them. If I remember correctly, the flames were within a few points of Detroit for first in the league at one point deep into the season… and then within 2 weeks, they lost absolutely all of their depth scoring to injury (langkow, bourque, Glencross, bertuzzi, etc.). As well as their bottom half of their defense. The team never recovered and faced a healthy young Chicago team in the first round.
