Think about it this way. Remember when Gio first signed his deal, we all said it's a fantastic deal at the front of the contract, but will most likely be an albatross near the end when he declines, and we have to still pay him for the last year, but that's the price we had to pay in order to get him at a lower cap hit. Well, I guess Seattle kind of took care of that problem for the Flames. We got the best years of Gio on that contract, and now Seattle is taking on probably the worst year of it.

That is my way of thinking as well. He turns 38 in a couple months and more often than not when a player starts losing it, it goes rather quickly. He was always going to be a bit of an unknown as to how long he could keep his game at a high level. As much as it sucks to see him go, if he goes, now it is Seattle issue to worry about.
