Municipalities and school boards are free to rename streets, parks, and schools as PR exercises (though unfortunately the costs won’t come out of the PR department budgets). So since it doesn't fix everything don't do it?
It's low hanging fruit that can be done, and even if it only makes few people happy then do it. Pretty simple.
