A google hub might not be a bad option.
You could buy it and set it up on an account for them with the home screen photo frame selected as a shared google photos album that you could curate (or auto upload based on kids/someone's faces). Easy enough to log in and remotely manage if they run into any tech issues (vs other frames) and a heck of a lot easier to push photos to than something else.
