Please remember that Theo Fleury was on the fourth line on that team. He scored 34 points in 36 games. Jiri Hrdina scored 54 points in 70 games, yet was also a regular on the fourth line, and I think he was a healthy scratch from time to time. Mark Hunter had three straight seasons of 30+ goals and 60+ points in St. Louis, but in Calgary he was a third-liner.
‘Middle six’ in a capped league roughly equates to ‘in and out of the lineup’ when you're talking about one of the deepest rosters of all time. It's no knock against Peplinski (or McDonald) that they were sometimes scratched on a team like that.
