There are civil marriages that have nothing to do with religon. In fact, my sister was married by a judge, not a religous leader. I suppose you're against that also.

I agree that marriages do not necessarily have to be a religious event.
Civil marriages happen more and more all the time. As a matter of fact, when my Fiance and I are married in May it will be in a civil ceremony performed by a Commissioner of Oaths.
Marriages performed by a Church could be considered religious but the fact remains that the minister/priest is still simply being sanctioned by the state to perform the civil details of marriage in addition to the ceremony being conducted by the church.
