She was in the Mickey Mouse Club at 10 or so... now I know that she didn't decide to audition or make it to that audition without her parents...
People do what they are taught/allowed to do. Look no further than her screwed up childhood and her parents if you'd like to blame anyone for the life she's developed. She has an audience of millions and every time she screws up it's reported in the news... from the time she's 16. Do you think you'd be normal after that? Britney, along with many other child stars whose parents 'encouraged' such actions, are excellent examples of what happens when a parent pushes a child too hard too early.
And if the media stayed out of her personal life, I'm sure it would be much different.

Her parents may have gotten her in the lime light. But there is no reason why she can't get herself out of it. It's not like she is staying away from the media. Going out and partying with the "no-panties" crew that is Paris Hilton isn't exactly saying "let me live my life." The parents are partly to blame. But she is an adult now. An adult with kids. So if being the spot light is bad for her life, then as a good parent she needs to get out of the spot light.
If anyone thinks that a celebrity like Spears can't escape stardom think again. Cat Stevens left it all behind when he was pretty much at his peak. Britney is hardly at her peak so it shouldn't be a problem for her.
