From the perspective of the expansion draft, the forwards would cancel each other out and it would free up a defence protection spot for Gio. The other team would have to have a spare protection spot on defence for something like that to work. I don't know if there are very many teams that have both a forward who would be worth that type of package deal from the Flames and who also has only 2 defencemen worth protecting.
I guess another option would be to move one of those d-men for either a draft pick or a young player who is exempt from the expansion draft.

Gio is a short term player so I don't see the the point of trading Andersson, Tanev, Hanafin as I assume the team wants to be competitive in the last year of Sutter's contract. I see it mentioned here a few times that Gio is the Flames best defenseman but that's flat out wrong as Tanev had an amazing season last year and according to Dom Luszczyszyn's metrics was a top 15 overall NHL defenseman last season. There's no guarantee that Gio won't have a major drop off next season and we know that things that can go wrong for this organization usually do so the best course of action is simply to let things play out and if the Kraken take Gio, then move on with almost $7 million in cap space to spend.
