Then you have prospects that just 'have it' - they are strong on their skates, they play a mature game with strong defensive instincts, and they get drafted as good pros already.


I would bet that Pelletier leans more to the latter (to say the least). The AHL is nothing to sneeze at, and it is definitely a good development league with tonnes to learn. It just wouldn't surprise me if Pelletier came into camp in a few months and forced his way onto the team. He seems to have 'it' to me when I watch him. I would bet that he does start in the AHL, but I wouldn't raise an eyebrow if he is on the Flames next season.
I think players should get AHL time if they need it but as little as possible - there’s a stagnancy risk.
