Maybe. Somehow I don't see the Habs as the kind of powerhouse team that can easily make the playoffs with one of their best players gone for the year. By the time Weber is medically cleared to come back (if that happens), it might be too late even to make it into the playoffs.
As I think everyone is tired of hearing by now, I don't buy the narrative that the North Division was especially weak. But it did have the advantage of having only seven teams. Instead of being better than three divisional rivals, they'll have to beat four just to make the dance.
