The other top-4 guy for them was playoff rental (3rd round pick) Mike Rielly who was paired with Carlo.
I would suggest that Carlo is the #2 D on Boston and this is a team friendly deal.
For interest: where would you rank Carlo in the Flames current Defense?
He would be the lowest paid of Hanifin and Andersson who are the same age as Carlo and a chunk of change behind Tanev as well.
Both Andersson and Hanifin skip the bridge contract( Carlo 2 x 2.85) after their ELC and went straight to the big bucks.

Carlo is only the number 2 dman on Boston because their blue line needs serious work. Ideally, hes a middle pair, stay at home defenseman. He provides next to no offense. It's basically identical to the one Brian Dumoulin signed a few years ago in Pitt, and they are very similar players. It's only team friendly because it's cheap, but it probably would have been anywhere.
