At first I thought the reporting of the terms of this trade was some kind of practical joke.
And upon digging deeper, I found out it was in fact a practical joke .... a joke on every inhabitant of Edmonton.
Among defencemen with at least 500 minutes at 5-on-5 last season, Keith was on the ice for the highest rate of expected goals against and shots on goal against and second-highest rate of shot attempts against. He was literally the worst defenceman in the NHL. Better still, the Oilers somehow failed to negotiate any salary retention by the Blackhawks, so Edmonton is on the hook for Keith's $5.5+ million cap hit for two more fricken years. And even zanier, the Oilers need to waste a protection slot on Keith in the upcoming expansion draft. Just a fabulously moronic and laughably boneheaded trade on all possible levels. Is Chiarelli still working there???
