Johnny holds all the cards. Trading for Eichel likely only makes sense with Johnny signed. Is Calgary really going to hold the line on the term?

Oh course the Flames would prefer a term of 5-6 years. But Johnny choosing to accept a term making him an UFA again at a age which does not favour him is not going to happen.
I would agree 100% in a moving cap world. Not so sure in a flat cap world.

Top players may take shorter terms in order to get up for renewal again in their careers with some runway left.

5 years wouldn't shock me at all.
