It could be old school as it’s decades since I played anything competitive but if you were down a couple of breaks you would fight to ensure you were serving the first game in the next set. You also might work on fixing something that was off. If your backhand wasn’t working you might spend a few points focused on getting it down. Your goal was to have something positive happen.
Extending that set by winning a couple games in this match was something positive and with their fitness level expending that energy is probably ok.
