For sure he will get the typical long term UFA deal with the poison pill on the tail end, so I see your point.
I'm all in favour of rebuilding through the draft and avoiding those contracts, but if they are going to do that and sign some UFA, I think Landeskog would be a good edition and seems like a Sutter kind of player. But yeah, generally speaking, I would prefer not to go that route, but it seems to be the Treliving way.
I think it's a moot point anyway. I suspect Colorado already has a deal in principle and is waiting until after the expansion draft to re-sign him, similar to Washington and Ovechkin.
