I’m suggesting that we won’t get fair value for a player who not only wants out but has a strangle hold on us when it comes time to resign. I’m not saying this trade is amazing and will make us better for sure. It is probably the best we can do.
I personally think Thomas is getting underrated and if we could get a first in 22 or 23 it not a terrible return. I think if tarasenko returns to form he can be traded for a decent return. If you get a first for him now it’s Thomas and 2 firsts for a player who doesn’t want to play for you anymore and might have an agenda to play for a select few teams which diminishes his value even more (like Adam fox example already mentioned)
Perfect world he loves Calgary and plays his whole career here maybe even takes a discount to stay but sounds like that isn’t what he wants
So yeah time to rebuild because this situation is making it even less likely that we can move forward with this core and win now
