Zero chance, if they have control. But maybe they already know his intentions? Maybe he has already stated that he will playout this contract and only sign the qualifying offer for a one year contract to reach free agency the quickest way possible. This may have been stated to them already and now they have to find a way to manage this right.

I read your post. You're making the assumption the team has the control. Because of the way this contract was structured, and the qualifying number being what it is, the player holds most of the cards. The one card the team holds is the ability to trade him anywhere. If Tkachuk's camp has stated they will play this contract out and sign only the one year deal, Treliving must be feeling quite the bit of discomfort at the moment.
