I'm not sure that lights on John Laurie will be the calamity that some fear. They'll be timed to be heavily in favour of traffic on JLB, with the occasional stop to let cars from 19th, Charleswood, and Brisebois out.
I like a nice free flowing road as much as the next guy, but I think that 95% of the time you'll cruise right through anyway.
I would also be in favour of the complete opposite approach: permanent right-in, right-out only. Take the t-bone possibility right out of the equation because, as we know, many drivers have poor timing and judgment.
