Barring a massive overpayment by STL that is better than EVERY other offer in the league, there is not a deal to be made here that makes the Flames better IMO. I've always liked Tarasenko...when he was on the cusp of scoring 40 goals every season. Like him or not, he is likely not that player anymore. And who is going to get him the puck when Gaudreau is likely traded at some point?
I don't know enough about Tarasenko outside of his goal scoring so maybe someone can comment if he's a line driver and generates offence on his own? Or is he another winger who need someone to get him the puck to be effective?
Tarasenko and Johnny together is an intriguing pairing...if Gaudreau re-signs. Otherwise Tkachuk is our most valuable trading piece and that should be used to acquire a #1 C or a significant package that is impossible to refuse.
The injury history of Tarasenko as well as the age difference does not translate to the Flames coming out a better team if this trade goes down. Would much rather see Tkachuk re-signed long term here.
